Single Day Build & Keep Circuit Activity

The future continues to be electronics. Everything from smartphones to smart speakers like Amazon Echo use electronic circuits. This hands-on class is great for students who like learning by doing. Students will learn the basics of electronics and build and program a simple, yet cool, flashing circuit device to take home!
Students interested in a career in electrical engineering, automation, robotics, electronics, or computer programming would benefit from this course.

Single Day Game Design with Kodu Course

This one day intro course will introduce kids to the world of game development using Kodu, a 3D environment, created by Microsoft. Kids will rapid prototype a video game, which is what real game developers do when developing video games. They will build, test, and go through the process of video game creation., which involves creating terrain, hills, trees, and characters. Kids with an interest in game development will get a taste of what it’s like to be a game developer.

First-Person Shooter in Kodu

Students will explore the fundamentals of Kodu and basic game structure through the creation of a first-person shooter in the style of Doom or Halo. Learning objectives include a grasp on foundational game development elements such as conditions and events.

Emulating a Classic in Scratch

Through this class, students will mirror various elements of the original Super Mario Bros. in the creation of their own 2D platforming game. Learning objectives include the formation of rudimentary physics calculations and sprite interactions that allow players to properly associate their inputs with actions in the game.

Build Your Own 3-D Race Game Using X-box Controllers

(3rd – 8th Grade)

Students will create a 3D race game where the student will race against a “Bot” (AI – artificial intelligence) that the student will program! Students will learn how to create an environment for a robust and challenging game. They will program their sprite (character) to have the desired responses to keystrokes and game controller keys and knobs, as well as program artificial intelligence into opponent and enemy bots!

Rapid Prototyping with Roblox

(4th – 8th Grade)

Students will rapidly prototype a 3D video game within Roblox Studio using built in features within the Roblox interface. Students will also write the code that will cause the game features to execute. This class is excellent for any student whether he/she has Roblox coding experience or not.

Build and Keep: Reflex Game

(4th – 8th Grade)

Build a miniature reflex game that will allow two players to test their reaction speeds against one another. This game is similar in style to the button pressing action seen on Family Feud. Whoever presses their button fastest in reaction to the LED will be deemed the winner! This course is ideal for kids that are interested in and curious about electronics. This activity covers basic concepts such as breadboard circuit prototyping, microcontrollers, buttons, resistors, and LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). Best of all, you get to take the project home!

INTRODUCTION TO ELECTRONICS WITH ARDUINO

Arduino is a credit card sized mini computer that can be used to teach programming and electronics. Students can create amazing interactive objects and projects with sensors that can control lights, motors, and much more. The basis for electrical engineering. This is a great class for kids who are curious on how and why electronics work.
